McLaughlin Research Corporation (MRC) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support on-going systems engineering tasking within the NUWC Division, Newport, RI.


The Weapon Systems Division (Code 852) of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) is responsible for providing engineering and technical services for Torpedo programs. This includes the definition, design, development, integration, and test of torpedo upgrades, automatic test equipment, ancillary equipment, weapon procurement for production support activities, torpedo performance analysis for operational readiness, system integration, overall systems engineering.

In support of this mission 852 is seeking journeyman/senior Electrical Engineers, Electronics Engineers or Computer Engineers with experience in design, development and test of AISC/FPGA systems.  The engineer may perform or support requirements specification, digital design, simulation, design validation, system integration testing, and production support of digital circuits and systems. The relevant digital electronic system designs include signal processing, command and control, communications, and user interfaces for military applications.

Responsibilities include: 

Code 852 needs experienced (6yrs+) FPGA design engineers to analyze, design and verify solutions to meet the requirements for torpedo systems. Immediate requirements that need addressing include but are not limited to the following:

  • Data at rest per S FIPS 140-2, FIPS PUB 197 (AES) by NIST
  • Recording dual gigabyte Ethernet recording streams
  • Reducing System boot time


Required Qualifications:

  • FPGA development / verification using VHDL/System Verilog/ OVM
  • Proficient in timing closure techniques
  • Experience with FPGA vendor tools such as Intel Quartus, Xilinx


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using test equipment to test and verify the performance of hardware
  • Experience writing detailed verification test plans and test reports
  • Experience debugging hardware in a lab or field environment
