Please join us in welcoming Daniel Freitas, a highly experienced leader in undersea warfare and torpedo systems.
Dan began his civilian career at the Naval Underwater Systems Center (NUSC) in July 1985 and has dedicated nearly four decades to advancing undersea warfare capabilities. Throughout his career at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), he has held a range of increasingly senior roles, including Lead Systems Engineer, Assistant Science Advisor at COMSUBPAC, Branch Head, Technical Project Manager, and Chief Engineer for Torpedoes.
His contributions to the Navy’s mission have earned him numerous accolades, including a Citation from the Secretary of the Navy, an Excellence in First-Line Supervision Award, and a Citation from Rear Admiral M. C. Colley for meritorious service associated with projects he led at SUBPAC. He also completed the Department of Defense Executive Leadership Program (ELP) in 2008, further strengthening his foundation in strategic and organizational leadership. Dan holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Southeastern Massachusetts University, with a specialization in Signal Processing and Underwater Acoustics.
Over the course of his career, Dan has consistently translated advanced engineering into meaningful fleet capabilities. As Technical Project Manager for Advanced Processor Build Five (APB5), he led efforts that enhanced weapon performance and achieved Initial Operational Capability one year ahead of schedule. He also spearheaded the delivery of 60 low-cost prototype hardware units, enabling new weapon capabilities. His experience extends beyond government service, including roles with Raytheon as Project Engineer for the Spanish Mine Hunting Sonar System and with a startup company pioneering streaming video technology.
At MRC, Dan is putting his extensive torpedo expertise and leadership experience to work supporting the NUWC engineering team across both Heavyweight and Lightweight Torpedo programs. He is also helping expand MRC’s capabilities and opportunities within this critical product line.
We are proud to welcome Dan to MRC and look forward to the experience, technical expertise, and leadership he brings to our team and our customers.
